Family-Owned and Operated, built by our family so our Uncle, a CEO and veteran World War I pilot, could have a private retreat to entertain his friends and business associates at the nation's then-longest 6,330 ft. chairlift opening for the 1940-41 season. We have elected to historically preserve its warm, friendly, old-time charm--as was experienced by such well-known regulars as HP Hood and NYC Mayor John Lindsay, rather than do a sterilizing renovation. Great for families with babies--kids find the place a wondrous memorable adventure-alternative to the modern condo-hotel. Maintained with 1940-1970's vintage decor, design, colors, furnishings, historical and personal memorabilia. Large fieldstone fireplace burns real wood--not gas! Due to risk to children, hot tub set-up must be requested (fee may apply). No pets. No smoking--bring a car to smoke in or smoke outdoors. As of 2008 we are working on exterior restoration so there may be areas of paint removal in process during your stay.

For Group Accommodations Flexible length of stay, minimum 2 nights and 23 p. at the Chalet. Excellent for hosting private retreats & reunions, ski & social events, and with proof of legal age, chalet accommodates party with spirits on cement basement floor, with no deposit! Terms & conditions include: Groups must be affiliated. Youth groups must consist of 30% parents and parents must room and board with youths. No hiring of independent contractors to the property. No business to be conducted on the property. No open invitations (organizer must supply occupant list).

Notes on Prices
Catering price above for basic Modified American Plan (MAP) service (breakfast & dinner) which includes fresh baked muffins and dessert, tossed salad, vegetables and a prime-roast served without extensive creativity, generally good for mixed groups of people. Extra charges for 4 course, gourmet, ethnic, etc. catering. For all guests, BYOB. Prices are per person, in USD.

Notes on Groups
Group rates are offered only for renting the entire chalet privately for your group's personal use. When you rent the entire chalet the chalet becomes closed to the public. Group rates are based on private access to all floorspace in the chalet (except kitchen and staff areas) and pricing becomes based on real-estate rental rates, not room rates.

Call for exact written group quote (via FAX). Your exact daily rate depends on dates, group size, length of stay, and amenities. Minimum occupancy restrictions (group size, length of stay) may apply. Payment in full due 30-60 days in advance of arrival; exact terms depend on dates. Daily rate includes snow removal, paper plates/cups/plastic cutlery, firewood, linens, maid service on departure. Bus parking/ parking for 20 cars. Chalet is not handicapped accessible.
Terms and Conditions: No pets. State law--no indoor smoking. Bring a car to smoke in or smoke outdoors. $100 cleaning fee per room for unauthorized smoking and pets. No open invitation--occupant list required (occupant list verified at check-in before key(s) issued) Independent contractors (including tent erection, DJs, musicians, catering, adult entertainment) must be approved by property manager and must be supervised by property manager while on the property with regard to utility connections, moving of furniture, and use of facilities. Payments: due as stated to make and keep reservation. Payments considered received when paid by your bank, not by receipt of documents. We reserve right not to disclose chalet address until we receive final payment. You authorize us to make electronic withdrawals from accounts you specify to pay amounts due for this rental.
Cancellation Policy: Payments not received may cause cancellation of reservation. Due to discount pricing, All Sales Final. For payments you have made, we issue refunds equal to amounts we receive to re-rent your unit up to amounts you have paid. If we are unable to re-rent your unit amounts paid may be lost.

Changeover day
For catered bookings time of arrival and departure is completely flexible to enable you to make the most of the budget flights.

Notes on accommodation
The Chalet has 4 floors. Guests with very young children are advised to discuss their requirements directly with the owner so that diaper pails are provided, etc. When dinner is not served there are a number of local restaurants which we can recommend, the closest being a short walk.

Walk to apres ski bar & grill with dancing, live entertainment and restaurant, general store with beer & wine, fitness center. Snowboard, apparel rental 200 yards. Game room, ski/snowboard/bike repair workshop. Snow sliding hill, snow-fort and tunnel construction area for kids. Fridge, freezer, microwave, high chair, iron/ironing board, recycling bins. Limited supervised access to kitchen for baby food preparation. Telephone, TV/VCR/DVD, HiFi stereo/CD w/iPod plug-in, WiFi b/g wireless internet.  As is traditional with European-style Chalets, the Chalet is the rental unit, not the bedrooms. Therefore, sofas, tables, and amenities such as telephone and TV are located in common areas, not the bedrooms. For groups, staff can reconfigure the living room as a theater with 12 ft. cinemascope/HDTV screen with professional video projector. (fee may apply).

Accessibility
The Chalet is a non-commercial building and does not accommodate guests with mobility problems.

Outside
The Chalet has gardens, lawns, barbecue and outdoor furniture available for the use of guests in the summer.

Skiing Boarding
28 acre estate adjoins Stowe Mountain Resort ski area property on western boarder, Green Mountain State Forest property to the southwest, and Trapp Family Lodge property on southern boarder. The Chalet is at 1000 ft. elevation. It is a short 400 yard shuttle to the ski touring (X/C) center and 900 yard shuttle to the Toll House base lodge where the lift is taken up to 4000 ft., with access to Mt. Mansfield-Stowe Mountain Resort, Spruce Peak at Stowe and Smugglers' Notch Resort via connecting lifts. Free shuttles to/from lifts and shops every 20 minutes, ski home on private skiway. Slopeside to ski touring (X/C) trails groomed by Stowe Mountain Resort, Spruce Peak at Stowe and Trapp Family Lodge, and skiway connects to Topnotch Resort ski touring center and Catamount Trail. When staff permits, we will be pleased to ski with you and show you the best runs. Advice on guiding and lessons can be provided on request.

Travel
The private airport is 20 minute drive. The international airport (Burlington, VT-BTV) is 45 minute drive. Montreal and Manchester NH is 2-3 hour drive, Boston 4 hour drive, New York City 6 hour drive. Bus transfers are available. Alternatively the Eurostar stops at the Amtrak rail station, 20 minutes to the Chalet. (Sorry the overnight sleeper coach service from New York each week arriving in Waterbury no longer available due to cost cutting.) Snow Storms & Driving: This property comes with 24 hr. storm service. The driveway is plowed, sanded and salted 24 hrs/day 7 days/week during storms so that you do not need 4WD to get in. If you arrive in a snow storm late at night or after skiing, you won't have to navigate deep snow (such as can happen at places plowed after snow storms.) The snow plow visits early every day when required in winter, however, emergency snow cable-chains are still essential for blizzards. Parking: 15-20 cars, charter bus parking. Sorry no RV access in winter!

Distances
Village supermarkets are a 10 minute shuttle ride(ski season) or drive from the Chalet. During ski season the shuttle bus passes the chalet 2-3 times an hour. Convenience mart is across the street for spirits, dairy, snacks. Well-known watering hole "The Matterhorn" with live entertainment and restaurant is next door. Many of our guests enjoy a beer there at the end of the days skiing before returning for dinner at the Chalet.
